The Democratic Alliance says its high-level GNU discussions remain ongoing following this today’s legal action.
The party headed to the Western Cape High Court earlier today, where urgent court papers were filed in an effort to interdict the Value Added Tax (VAT) increase of 0.5%. In a statement issued this afternoon, the DA says its federal executive had met for 90 minutes to discuss its stance on the national budget, the VAT hike and its position in the Government of National Unity, adding that its talks have not yet concluded.

The GNU partner is seeking to overturn parliament’s adoption of the 2025 fiscal framework and block Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s decision to increase the Value-Added Tax (VAT) rate, following yesterday’s budget vote.
