WATCH: Drunk Lentegeur saps officer crash into Golden Arrow bus

Lentegeur police have arrested one of their own after an alleged drunk police sergeant was detained for driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving.

 

This follows an incident in the area on Monday at 08:20 on the corner of of Eisleben Road and Lavender Street in Lentegeur, where the 48 year old police sergeant crashed into a Golden Arrow bus.

 

According to police reports, the alleged drunk sergeant was driving a silver in color, Mercedes Benz, and collided with a Golden Arrow bus at the traffic lights.

 

 

According to police Captain F.C Van Wyk, the officer, who is attached to the Lentegeur SAPS, was arrested and escorted to the Shadow centre in Athlone where his blood was collected from a registered and appointed nurse for analysis.

 

“His vehicle was badly damaged on the front and was towed away by tow truck from the scene.”

 

The sergeant was detained at Lentegeur SAPS, and appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates court on Tuesday, where h was released on bail of R1000.

 

According to Van Wyke, departmental steps has been instituted against the officer.
