Following the newly sworn-in president Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration on Wednesday, social justice activist Lorenzo Davids reckons that Ramaphosa will not complete his second term.
Ramaphosa has been serving as the country’s president since 2018.
He says while the 71-year-old brings stability and is the correct man for the job, there are, however, other factors at play:
“I think the writing is on the wall that he will not serve a full presidential term of 5 years. The forces are gathering. He is going to face a national elective conference of the ANC soon, and there will be a moment where there will be challenges to his authority as the president,” said Davids.
On Wednesday, Ramaphosa took his oath of office for the second time. This time to usher the nation into the 7th administration.

At the same time, Davids insists that the formation of a Government of National Unity (GNU) comes a bitter pill. He says he was left disappointed on Friday, when news of the ANC-DA’s alliance broke.

“It’s a sad moment that despite the rhetoric of freedom, we do not understand the rhetoric of liberation and prosperity, collectively for all South Africans, and that was the background to why I wrote that post. We gained our freedom in 1994 and we have to give it back because ultimately, we could not manage it well enough,” explained Davids.
