The Office of the Provincial Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile announced on Saturday morning that yet-to-be-tested information has led police officers back to Saldanha as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Joshlin Smith.

Patekile had made it clear during the conviction and sentencing of Joshlin’s three traffickers in May that the search for the little girl remained a priority for the SAPS.

Joshlin disappeared without a trace in February 2024.

On Friday afternoon, Officers descended on Middelpos informal settlement, pursuing new information.

SAPS teams, led by detectives with K-9 units, search and rescue teams, and local police, have been scouring an identified area in Saldanha Bay.

“Whether the ongoing search will yield any success remains to be seen. It is worth reiterating that police must follow up and test all information that is brought to their attention.”

Police have pleaded with interested parties to allow the search teams the space to perform their duties as the investigation continues.
