Over R2 billion allocated in Western Cape Budget for fight against Covid-19

The Western Cape MEC of Finance and Economic Opportunities David Maynier has announced the province has mobilised a R2.17 billion war-chest to defeat Covid-19 in the Western Cape.

Maynier delivered the 2021 Western Cape Budget Address in the provincial legislature earlier today. He says to defeat the virus, the province must vaccinate as many people as possible.

R100 million has also been mobilized to provide humanitarian relief, which will to respond to the needs of people who have lost jobs, who cannot make ends meet, and who are going hungry in the Western Cape.

Maynier says the recovery plan for the province will be guided by creating jobs, and ensuring resident’s safety well-being.

A total package of R217.83 billion was announced over the medium term. Maynier says the province has been hard hit by the pandemic, but the budget provides hope.
