The newly appointed firefighter recruits by the City’s Fire and Rescue Service will soon hit the ground running, just in time for the busy summer season.

The City’s Fire and Rescue Service has welcomed 51 new recruits into its fold, which earned their stripes after an intensive selection process and training course. The new firefighters recently graduated and will soon be deployed at a number of fire stations around the city. The new recruits had to pass a tough physical assessment, and then eight months of training in various modules including Firefighter 1, Hazardous Materials Awareness and First-Aid Level 3.

One of the new firefighters Arthur Cornelissen from Kuils River says it was always a dream of his to become a firefighter.

I’m very ecstatic and honored to be able to be part of a team that serves and protects the country. I have been a seasonal firefighter before and know how tough it is out there.  I want to thank the City and all the trainers who assisted us during training and assessments.
