The Montrose Foundation was established in 2008 and is breaking new ground with its leading edge approach to addressing substance abuse and addiction in disadvantaged communities. The Trust aims to set up community infrastructures, whereby people can become better informed about addiction, and empowered to access help through our various programmes.
The mission of Montrose Foundation is to assist in the prevention of addiction, and to support the transformation of the lives of individuals and families affected by addiction. The MF aims to create awareness of addiction globally and in South Africa, to focus on youth addiction prevention and the optimisation of outpatient treatment.
Primary goals of the Foundation
To provide, co-ordinate or support programmes relating to:
The care or counseling of, or the provision of education programmes relating to abandoned, abused, neglected, orphaned or homeless children. Education initiatives to prevent addiction in disadvantaged communities in South Africa,including the provision of training for care or providing care, counseling and treatment. Health initiatives to help prevent addiction and support treatment in disadvantaged communities in South Africa. Community development for disadvantaged persons, including the promotion of community-based projects relating to empowerment, capacity building and skills development and the provision of training, support or assistance to these projects. Initiatives enhancing awareness of addiction and available treatment resources.
Equine assisted learning is a unique method of working with people who are grappling with addiction, social and communication problems, low self-esteem and aggression. Through this initiative, we aim to make equine assisted learning an affordable and accessible intervention tool for use in disadvantaged communities.
