A toddler has been wounded in Mitchells Plain this morning amid ongoing gun violence in the Cape Flats.

Western Cape SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, confirmed that a three-year-old boy was wounded in the leg, as gunshots rang out in Tennis Street, Beacon Valley.

It is said that a bullet went through the wooden walls of the boy‘s home while he was asleep.

“The father discovered that his son was wounded on his left leg after a bullet penetrated the wood. The victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment,” said Twigg.

The suspect fled the scene, and the circumstances of the incident are now under investigation.

SmileFM has previously reported of a four-year-old girl was also shot and wounded in Atlantis on 3 September. The little girl and a 31-year-old man, who was killed in the incident, were shot at while in Hoop Crescent that morning.

The girl was in a critical condition in the hospital days after the incident.

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old was arrested and subsequently made a court appearance for her attempted murder and the murder of the man.

“The 14 year old suspect appeared in the Atlantis Magistrates’ court, where bail was successfully opposed and denied. He remained in custody until his next court appearance,” said Western Cape police spokesperson, Lt Col Malcolm Pojie in a 4 September statement.

Police are calling on anyone with information on the incident in Mitchells Plain to come forward.
