A 14-year-old has been arrested for the murder of a man, and the attempted murder of a toddler, in Atlantis.

A four-year-old girl was wounded on Wednesday morning after a shooting in Hoop Crescent, Saxonsea.

A 31-year-old man, who was the intended target, was gunned down on his way to his girlfriend’s home.

Police say an unknown suspect dressed in black shot him several times in the leg and head. The 31-year-old, reportedly an alleged gangster, died on the scene.

The little girl, who was an innocent bystander, sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach. She was transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Malcolm Pojie, said the child is in a critial but stable condition.

Pojie noted that the teenager had been arrested hours after the incident. He made a court appearance on Thursday, where he was denied bail.

“The 14 year old suspect appeared in the Atlantis Magistrates’ court, where bail was successfully opposed and denied. He remained in custody until his next court appearance,” said Pojie.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS mobile application, anonymously.

The shooting in Saxonsea comes after 10 year old child was wounded in Hanover Park on Tuesday night. Two teenagers and an adult were also shot and wounded while standing in Agulhas Court.

There was outrage earlier this month after 11-year-old Esmine Franke was killed by a stray bullet in Wallacedene.
