Matric Results: The wait is almost over for the Class of 2024

Published on

The eagerly awaited national and provincial pass rates for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams will be unveiled on Monday, 13 January 2025.

The national results event, set to take place in Gauteng, will also celebrate top-performing students who have achieved exceptional results on a national scale.

While the overall percentage pass rate remains a key metric in assessing matric results, education authorities emphasize the importance of additional indicators to paint a more comprehensive picture of progress.

These include the number of candidates earning a bachelor’s pass, the total number of students writing and passing the exams, and the reduction of underperforming schools.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) aims to build on its 2023 performance, where the province achieved an 81.5% pass rate and a 42.2% bachelor’s pass rate.

Officials are hopeful for improvements not only in percentages but also in the number of candidates reaching these milestones.

In 2023, the WCED achieved notable success in key subjects, securing the top Mathematics pass rate of 75.4% and the top Physical Science pass rate of 82.2%. This year, efforts will focus on both increasing these figures and enhancing the quality of passes in these critical subjects.

Release of Individual Results

Individual results for Western Cape learners will be available at schools and on the WCED website starting at 10:00 on Tuesday, 14 January 2025.

The WCED encourages learners to remember that options are available for those who may not achieve their desired results. Students who feel their results do not reflect their performance can apply for a re-mark or re-check. Additionally, those wishing to improve their results may write supplementary exams in June.

Detailed information on these options is accessible via the WCED website.

Support for Learners

Recognizing the potential emotional toll of the results period, the WCED has measures in place to provide support.

Learners who feel disheartened are encouraged to approach their schools, which can connect them with district officials for counseling. Alternatively, students can reach out to the Safe Schools Hotline at 0800 45 46 47 for assistance.

The WCED has extended its best wishes to all matriculants and hopes for positive outcomes as the 2024 results are revealed.
