Man injured inside sauna of Virgin Active Foreshore club

What was meant to be a relaxing morning in the sauna turned to tragedy, when a Virgin Active gym member was injured at the Foreshore Club on Wednesday 11 September 2024.

When Smile 90.4FM visited the gym, we were informed that the man was sitting in the sauna when the roof caved in, harming him.

The victim was then transported to a medical facility where he received multiple stitches. Although staffers confirmed that the incident occurred, attempts to get more clarity on the matter and the man’s current condition, from the gym’s management and the national head office, initially went unanswered.

Virgin Active South Africa eventually issued the below response:

“With regards to your query, the team confirms an incident took place and that the member and club have worked together ensuring the member is OK. Immediate action was taken.”

Until as recently as August 2024, there have been a number of complaints about the sauna, steam room, and general infrastructure. The company, despite its website stating that people can lodge complaints by using social media, ignored the latest complaints on social media.
