School parents felt the pressure:

Across the country the stress of back-to-school got moms and dads scrambling to get some last minute supplies. A lot of parents got in touch with the Smile Breakfast show to let us know how the school run went. They seemed to feel quite emotional about dropping their kids off. One listener remembered a time when taking her twins daughters to grade one left her feeling like she had a heavy babalas

“They were so excited but I was so stressed. We had to stop on the side of the road to vomit because of the stress of knowing that my little two youngins were going to be flying into the world”

The school lunchbox has definitely changed:

Lunchboxes are another big part of your first day of school. Callers told us about what their lunchboxes used to look like when they were in school. They’ve changed quite a bit with what you give your kids these days:

If you think this looks extravagant wait till you hear about the multimillion rand lunchbox from Japan. A few years ago Japanese department store Takashimaya sold three commemorative gold boxes for food delicacies to mark its 180th anniversary. The luxury lunch boxes, with three layers, are made from 18-karat gold and weigh 3.35 kilograms. They only sold three of them for a whopping R3 876 592.
