The fabulous first day of school

Everyone’s talking about it – the fabulous first day of school 2023. Over one million pupils in the Western Cape started the academic year year today. While Smile Breakfast has been reminiscing about how their own childhood experiences, Lindy experienced her very first school run today. Her own child isn’t old enough yet, but she did accompany little Ilyaas to his big day of Grade 1. She was greeted with excitement, nerves, warm breakfast, uniforms, and of course those oversized suitcases:

Today is quite overwhelming for parents too:

So Lindy took little Ilyaas to his first day of grade 1 in a fancy sports car courtesy of Laude Classic Cars. Emotions run high for kids on a day like this, but it can also get a bit much for the parents:

“I think I’m going to have myself a nice cup of tea. Then I think I’ll have a nap. It’s been a bit much for me today so I need to take it easy. Hubby took the day off today so he can look after the baby.”

His Grade 1 teacher will be his mom away from home:

We also caught up with Ilyaas’ teacher who will be there to take all the Grade ones through their first day of school. Sometimes we forget what a special kind of person it takes to welcome all those little pupils and get them comfortable with the start the academic year.

Ilyaas’ new friends in his class all got some fabulous hampers full of everything they need for the first day of school. They were all kitted out with goodies courtesy of Mason Complete Office Solutions. Ilyaas will have lots of stories to tell when he gets home later today and is bound to be very popular with his new friends. We wish all parents and kids an easy first day of school and a successful 2023.
