Kraaifontein police took matters into their own hands after a video went viral on social media, where a teenager is seen assaulting his elderly grandmother.
According to police Colonel Andre Traut, the grandmother, who is from Wallacedene, was traced and found in hospital. At the time she was being treated for an ailment not related to the assault.
Further investigation revealed that the incident seen in video, occurred in June at the grandmother’s residence. Traut says it was found that police were called to the scene at the time of the incident, but it is said that the family took the matter into their own hands and refused police assistance.

The suspect, aged 19 who also lives in Wallacedene, was arrested at his residence on Tuesday night.
“Crimes against women and children are on top of SAPS’ priority list, and we will not be turning a blind eye to any form of violence in this regard.”
According to Kraaifontein police, he is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Blue Downs Magistrates Court once he has been charged.
