The Dassenberg Horse Rescue Centre (DHRC) is a prolife non-profit animal rescue centre that provides and takes in severely traumatized, neglected, abused and injured horses and dogs. The centre was started in the year 2000 by a woman named Mayanna Muter who was spurred into action by the plight of Atlantis horses.
Founder member Mayanna has in the years of the centre’s existence, rescued and rehabilitated countless horses that, without her efforts, would have been condemned to brutal and pointless deaths. They also have kennels where they take in abused, neglected, unwanted and stray dogs. As if this wasn’t enough, they have had to battle the indifference of local authorities and welfare organizations, and have sought to educate the local community on the basic points of grooming, feeding and horse care. Much of this was achieved with scant resources and without any financial contributions.
The Centre is currently caring and rehabilitating about 100 animals of which horses and dogs rank about 65 of them and the rest ranges from ducks, chickens, geese and cats, with much of the financial burden being shouldered by the volunteers and mostly by Mayanna herself.

The Dandelion Initiative
Marguerite Black has a wonderful vision, and through the Dandelion Initiative she is constantly striving to improve the psychological and emotional well-being of disadvantaged children and teenagers who have experienced emotional and physical trauma, illness and physical disability.
The Dandelion Initiative offers sympathetic practices to promote wellbeing, healing and to encourage the release of trauma and the development of coping mechanisms, self-esteem, self-expression & confidence.
She runs clinics, on a voluntary basis at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, twice a week at the Renal Unit and every Thursday at the Outpatients Diabetic Clinic. The work she does entails play therapy, art, music and relaxation techniques, visualisation, journaling and involves helping the little patients find a sense of meaning and gratitude, with emphasis being placed on their illness not defining who they are a as a person.
What makes Marguerite’s story more than special, is at the age of 16, she herself was diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia, a crippling neurological disorder. She has written an autobiography which takes you through the progression of how she came to terms with her condition, and although living with this disorder is a daily battle; her dedication to helping the children is truly remarkable.
Please support Marguerite to continue the work she does at the Hospital, as she volunteers her time and outlays many resources to helping the little patients get better.
You can support this initiative by volunteering your professional skills, business contacts, time, fundraising ideas, or by simply making a financial donation.

Sarfat Community Projects
Sarfat Community Projects is an independent, non-profit organisation with the purpose of providing an extensive community service through development projects.
It is registered both as a non-profit organisation (004-407 NPO) and public benefit organisation (PBO 930005488).
Sarfat Community Projects was established in 1993 by community and church leaders from the northern suburbs of the Cape Town Metro pole. In the first few years the organization concentrated on entrepreneurial development. A number of unemployed people were assisted in becoming self-employed entrepreneurs, several of whose businesses have grown to substantial home businesses (e.g. a nursery and bakery).
In 1996 a delegation of church leaders in Bloekombos contacted Sarfat for assistance in development. The pastors felt a great responsibility towards the needs of their community. From then the work of Sarfat focused more on community development – helping people to help themselves.
Vision
As partners in Christ we work together in love to unlock and develop our God given potential.
Mission
To help build the Kingdom of Christ through community development projects with the purpose of promoting the quality of life of the community concerned.
Objectives
To facilitate participation in development projects by the Church, the private sector, the State, local government, schools, the public and social and welfare organizations.
We aim to provide life-sustaining services for people in need of assistance where these services are wanted, or support existing services.
To co-ordinate different development projects that promotes education and job creation.
