The provincial Department of Social Development has welcomed the announcement that six government-owned properties will be made available to be used as safe havens for victims of gender-based violence.
Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia De Lille, made the announcement today, saying it forms part of her Department’s drive to assist and help with the rehabilitation of victims of this type of violence.
Social Development MEC, Sharna Fernandez, says the havens will be created in government-owned buildings situated in the Garden Route, West Coast and the Central Karoo.
