Eskom CEO, Andre de Ruyter says the nine-point plan, implemented last year, has helped in gradually boosting generation-capacity which, in the long-run, would help reduce the occurrence of load-shedding.
During Eskom’s Systems Status and Outlook Briefing yesterday, de Ruyter said a major component of the plan was to focus on repairs and maintenance of the country’s major power-plants.
De Ruyter says technicians were able to make a lot of progress, during the early stages of the lock-down, when electricity-demand was very low.
He says with the current increased demand for electricity, and while maintenance at plants continues, load-shedding too would continue.
