Enyobeni tragedy: No conclusive cause of death yet

Published on

The Eastern Cape Health Department says toxicology tests have ruled out alcohol and carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of death of the 21 teenagers at Enyobeni Tavern, with no conclusive cause of death established yet.

The toxicology tests on both alcohol and carbon monoxide shows it was below the lethal level.

However, methanol was also found in the bloodstreams of all 21 teens, but it can’t be conclusively linked to their deaths yet.

The Department’s Dr. Litha Matiwane explains further testing is needed.
