Dewald Brevis took a major step toward national selection after an immaculate innings for the Titans at the CSA T20 Challenge on Monday, 31 October 2022. The teenager took the Knights bowling attack apart to etch his name next to a few huge records.
Brevis’ time out in the middle on the JB Marks oval n Potchefstroom was destructive. He timed the ball sweetly, hitting thirteen fours and thirteen sixes en route to a record-setting 162 in just 57 balls.
The highest score a South African batter has ever managed in T20 cricket 🤯

Bavuma, “He should be given time and space”
In June, ahead of the Proteas tour in India, captain, Temba Bavuma was asked about Brevis’ inclusion in the International set-up.
“He is obviously another exciting prospect. He’s set the world alight with performances at under-19 level and the bit that he showed at the IPL,” said Bavuma.
“In all fairness to him, he hasn’t played a 4-day, first-class game here back home in South Africa. I think it would be fair to allow him to play a couple of first-class games where he can really get an understanding of his game.
“I think it would be a lot of pressure to throw him into the international set-up and to expect him to make big plays within the team.
“He’s an exciting prospect and will be treated like any other exciting young prospect that comes onto the scene. The guy will be looked after as well as he can. But I think he should be given time and the space to go hone his game within our system and let him ease into the international side of things”
A proven match-winning talent
Brevis’ ability to take in information and apply it to his game is on a prodigious level. He admitted as much after the Titans impressive win.
“I like watching visual things. From a young age, I watched players bat and I just see how their bat swings,” said the former Affies man.
“It’s almost about watching a lot (of videos) and then you see how the path (of the bat) goes and it just stays in the back of your head. But you’re still true to yourself and you play your game. That’s even how I started bowling leg spin. I watched Shane Warne bowl.
“It’s something that comes naturally, I would say. I really love the game, so I love to watch videos of players.”

Proteas call-up imminent
It’s unlikely that Dewald Brevis will be asked to hop on a plane headed Down Under before the end of the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup. However, he feels that he already has what it takes to produce the goods for his country.
“I always believe, and even last year believed I was ready. But I trust the people in charge and I believe they would make the right decision,” said Brevis.
“Whenever the time comes, I’ll be ready.”
