Detectives called on the public to help trace a person of interest

Detectives from the Anti-Gang Unit have called on the public to help them trace a person of interest. The person’s name is Dayaan Fataar, and he’s being sought concerning an enquiry relating to an operation, where an arms cache was found stored at a house in Mitchells Plain, earlier this year.

Captain Frederick C. van Wyk says that officers followed up on information received on Monday, 1 September, regarding firearms being stored at a house in Weltevreden Valley. He says police members searched a premises in Oakway, Weltevreden Valley, Mitchells Plain, where they discovered an arms cache. Van Wyk says the illegal firearms and ammunition were concealed in cooler boxes and safes in the house.

At this stage, the person who rented the house is untraceable. Several firearms and ammunition were discovered. The Police have made a public appeal. Anyone with information which can assist with the investigation is asked to contact the investigating officer Detective Colonel Bonginkosi Libala on 082 411 2042 or Detective Sergeant Kevin Kok 071 673 1768.
