CITY’S GYMS GET PEOPLE ACTIVE

Published on

The City says it’s public gyms are helping residents to lead healthier lifestyles.

The City of Cape Town through its ward allocation projects set aside approximately R3,2 million towards the installation and upgrade of indoor and outdoor gym equipment in the current financial year.

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health,  Zahid Badroodien says the goal is to improve and promote overall fitness levels and physical health for residents.

“The gym equipment has been designed with maximum safety in mind provided it is used correctly and responsibly. They are also suitable for adults of all ages and fitness levels. It is also heartening to see so many of our senior residents taking responsibility for their health and making use of the equipment.”

Members of the public can report any faults, vandalism or broken gym equipment to the City’s Call Centre by dialling 0860 103 089, or by logging an online service request on www.capetown.gov.za, or by email to RP.Enquiries@capetown.gov.za

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management, Grant Twigg encourages residents to make use of these amenities.

“It is extremely rewarding to see how such projects benefit our communities. It is important that residents make maximum use of the equipment and take care of and responsibility for this equipment in partnership with the City, as increased community use decreases acts of vandalism.”
