The grieving process for three Northern Cape families have been prolonged, after the corpses of their relatives were stolen from a private mortuary, in Kuruman. On Monday, two suspects descended on the funeral parlour where they launched their attack.

“It is alleged that on Monday, 17 March 2025, at approximately 01:30, two unknown men entered a guard room at the funeral home and assaulted, tied up and blind folded the security guard. The suspects allegedly fled with three corpses, including two adult males and one baby girl,” said Northern Cape SAPS spokesperson Sergio Kock.

The robbery reportedly happened mere hours before the infant was set to be laid to rest. Kock confirmed that the incident is an isolated case, while the motive for the brazen act is yet to be determined. The Northern Cape SAPS Provincial Crime Investigation Services (CIS) is probing a case of business robbery.

“This is not common in the Northern Cape but our SAPS team is working around the clock to arrest the perpetrators,” Kock added.

Anyone who may have information is urged to contact Lieutenant Colonel Doggy Magugu on 0824690578 or contact the SAPS crime stop number 08600 10111 or alternatively utilize the Mysaps App.
