This year, the City of Cape Town hopes to replace and upgrade 50 thousand meters of sewer infrastructure across the Metro.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says decaying infrastructure and blockages lead to disruptive flooding in informal settlements during the yearly Winter-rain season.

Hill-Lewis says, in 2022 alone, more than 29 kilometers of sewer pipeline have already been repaired and replaced.

He says a lot of progress has been made with the City’s sewer upgrade project with an estimated 29 thousand meters of pipeline that have, to date, been replaced.

He yesterday joined technicians in the Joe Slovo settlement, in Milnerton to engage with residents and to gauge the progress of the project.

Hill-Lewis says improving sewer infrastructure, in especially informal settlements, forms a key component of service delivery and improving residents’ lives.
