Calls to reduce the price of Covid-19 PCR tests even further

Published on

With the country’s three largest pathology groups announcing that they will reduce the prices of Covid-19 PCR tests there are still calls for these prices to be reduced even further.

Pathcare, Ampath and Lancet have now agreed to reduce the price of their Covid-19 PCR tests from R850 to R500 per test.

A Gauteng health expert, Dr Kgosi Letlape spoke to e-NCA and says in countries like India and Zimbabwe, people sometimes pay up to less than R300 per test.

Letlape says government needs to determine the real price of these tests.

He urges that the price be reduced even more.
