South Africa is set to strengthen its border security with the deployment of cutting-edge technology at its ports of entry during the Easter long weekend. Four advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, and 40 body-worn cameras will be used for the first time to aid in border management and law enforcement. The drones are equipped with some of the most advanced night vision cameras globally, including thermal detection technology.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has warned members of the public about a scam circulating in several provinces involving fraudulent letters said to be from the police, that scam people into revealing their personal information. According to police, these fake letters, which are often distributed via WhatsApp, have the SAPS logo and contain the names, and contact details of senior SAPS officers, and, in some instances, the addresses of SAPS offices. The V&A Waterfront is playing host to yet another royal watercraft, the Queen Anne, who has made her maiden voyage to the Mother City today. The 249th ship in the esteemed Cunard fleet, the vessel arrived at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal after cruising from Durban, and is scheduled to leave for Namibia tomorrow, 11 April. Her arrival follows the historic visit by Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria in April 2024.
