Wakanda wonder Forever
The set is produced by Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davids and Dave Jordan.
The soundtrack features the long-awaited return of songstress-turned-beauty-mogul, Rihanna. Her lead single Lift Me Up has become the most-added song in US radio history. It also amassed the largest ever single-day audience.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired By soundtrack features more than 40 international artists. It also includes Rihanna, Tems, Fireboy DML, OG DAYV ft Future, CKay ft PinkPantheress, E-40 and more.
The madness and the masterminds
This set marks the fourth cinematic collaboration between Coogler and Göransson and aims to create an innovative soundscape. Göransson says that “the songs and score are one”. Ludwig Göransson is no stranger to the creative side of life. He has two Emmys, two Grammys and an Oscar under his belt. He composed and produced both the score and original songs on the soundtrack.
His producing work includes that for Childish Gambino, Adele, Haim and Justin Timberlake. He also wrote the scores for The Mandalorian, Creed and Black Panther.
The score and soundtrack took over 2500 hours to record. It involved six studios, across three continents and five countries. Audiences are treated to over 250 musicians, two orchestras, two choirs and more than 40 vocalists. “Ryan and I talked about the importance of creating an immersive journey of sound and voice. If we used a song in the film, we wanted it to be the entire song, and to be connected to the story. Thematically, we wanted to move the audience from grief to celebration. When you listen to the soundtrack, you can close your eyes and relive the experience of the movie. That was the intention,” said Göransson.
Coogler co-wrote the lyrics for the Rihanna track. He suggested the cover of Bob Marley’s “No Women, No Cry” which Tems performed. It was bridged together with Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” for the movie’s trailer.
