More than 88% of the 1 010 primary schools cannot comply with the 1-metre physical distancing rule in the Western Cape. The remaining 11.5% will be operating at full capacity as they have the ability to comply with all the health and safety regulations. Director of communications at the WCED, Bronagh Hammond says 38 of 72 special needs schools also returned to 100% schooling. High schools continue to use a differentiated timetabling model according to capacity and resources and are to maintain a physical distance of at least one metre.
