Abalone worth over R3-million were confiscated in Cape Town. Police sergeant Wesley Twigg says the discovery was made on Friday, 07 November 2025, in Amazon Street, Primrose Park. Two individuals, who are foreigners have been arrested and will appear in court soon.

Twigg says there was an intelligence driven operation between members of Operation Lockdown III and the Endangered Species K9 Unit. He says the members had searched the premises and found 6 400 units of perlemoen in a drying facility on the premises. Twigg added that the estimated street value of the perlemoen is R3,520 000.

He says drying equipment and gas cylinders were also seized. The two people who were arrested are a Chinese and a Malawian national. They’ll face a charge for the possession of abalone. The two males are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on Monday.
