A sailing yacht that ran aground at Clifton 4th Beach earlier today is being recovered. The National Sea Rescue Institute says a second sailing yacht which came close to running aground, has recovered to deeper water.

According to the NSRI Bakoven duty coxswain, Luke van Riet, NSRI Bakoven and NSRI Table Bay duty crews were activated at 04h19, following reports of a sailing yacht running aground and listing at Clifton 4th Beach.
Rescue swimmers and rescue craft dispatched
He says almost immediately it was established that all crew and passengers on 2 local charter sailing yachts were safe. Van Riet says TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) Table Bay Port Control were informed of the incident.
A second sailing yacht with 5 crew onboard
He says NSRI Bakoven and NSRI Table Bay dispatched rescue swimmers to 4th beach and the NSRI Bakoven rescue craft Gemini Legend and the NSRI Table Bay rescue craft DHL Deliverer were launched.

Safely at anchor
Van Riet says, on arrival, they found one sailing yacht, with 3 crew onboard, aground in shallow water. At the same time, a second sailing yacht with 5 crew onboard had also drifted into shallow water. He says they managed to motor back out to sea and are standing off in deeper water safely at anchor.
