Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the majority of schools across the country are not having to close and re-open due to Covid-19 infections, which can be attributed to the strict adherence to safety protocols.
She confirmed that the new school year will kick off on 25 January, and admitted that some of the work may have to be carried over to the new curriculum. The new school calendar will be gazetted on 2 Ocotber.
The results of Matric exams, due to start on 5 November, will only be released early next year.
Motshekga says all provincial education departments have secured extra rooms at examination centres, to ensure social distancing is adhered to during the National Senior Certificate Exams.
More than 1 million candidates will set for the exams, which will run unil 15 December.
The Final #NSCExams2020 will be a combined exam of June and Nov candidates. As such, this will be the biggest exam to ever be administered by DBE, with an expected 1.1 million candidates @ElijahMhlanga @GovernmentZA @SAgovnews @GCISMedia @HubertMweli #BreakingNews #SchoolsLevel1 pic.twitter.com/uDtq0TTUOa
