Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the National Coronavirus Command Council has approved that the School Calendar for 2020 be adjusted as follows:
- Office-based staff to return to work on 4th May 2020.
- School Management Teams should return to work on the 11th May.
- Teachers return to work on 18 May
- Grade 12 and 7 learners go back to school on the 1st of June.
- Other grades will follow in phases.
- She says schools need to be prepared before learners can arrive back.
- The school calendar will be gazetted once the administrative work has been completed.
- The Minister has emphasized that these are proposed dates.

Meanwhile, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says it has been decided to not resume with campus-based-activity at tertiary education institutions under Level 4 of lockdown.
That includes all universities and TVET colleges – both public and private. The only exception will be final year medical students, who will be able to return to campuses, under strict conditions.
Nzimande says learning will however continue, with several teaching interventions to be made available to students, country-wide.
