The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has called on other Government Departments and South African Municipalities, to make unused buildings available, to be converted into safe-havens for victims of gender-based violence.

Minister Patricia de Lille yesterday announced the release of 6 buildings, located in the Western Cape, that will be used as shelters for victims of this crime, saying it shows her Department’s committment to help with the rehabilitation of victims.

Spokes-person for Minister De Lille, Zara Nicholson, says these buildings are situated in the Garden Route, as well as the West Coast and Central Karoo.
