Premier Alan Winde has chaired the first Safety Cabinet meeting, with the aim to fast track the delivery of the R1 billion Western Cape Safety Plan.

The Safety Cabinet, which will take place every six weeks, brings together representatives from across the safety cluster, in order to measure progress on the Safety Plan.

The meeting was attended by the Western Cape Cabinet and representatives from across the criminal justice system, among them, Provincial Police Commissioner Yolisa Matakata, and representatives from the City of Cape Town, and the Departments of Justice and Correctional Services.

A Safety Dashboard was presented, which will be the mechanism used to both track the progress towards the goals set out in the Safety Plan and for the executive to make itself accountable to residents.

Each department in the provincial Government has been assigned a safety priority, in order to reduce violence and address the issues that contribute towards violent behavior.
