HUMAN RIGHTS CYCLE TOUR TO INSPIRE AND CHALLENGE

Published on

Cycling enthusiasts can look forward to a brand new cycling tour on Cape Town’s cycling calendar, aimed at enhancing the rich history of struggle for human rights in the country.

The Human Rights Cycle Tour which will take place in March 2020 is hosted by the Human Rights Centre Cape Town, an event that will see cyclists embark on a 75 km ride where cyclists will pass through most of the major human rights memorials and landmark sites.

The Founder of the Human Rights Centre, Dr Anwah Nagia says it’s a first of its kind in the world.

The route will challenge cyclists, but also challenge minds, and give participants an insight into the past. Dr Nagia says it’s important especially for young South Africans to embrace this tour, to be reminded that their freedom came at a cost.

The tour attracted over a thousand entries even before it was launched just over a week ago.

Dr Nagia says ultimately, this tour is aimed at promoting peace. He says it’s not about retribution, but about a resolution, and remembering and honouring those who lost their lives in the path to a free South Africa.
