Couple held at knifepoint during farm robbery in Grabouw

Investigations are underway following a farm attack in Vyeboom, in the Grabouw area, at the weekend. According to police, a couple was held at knifepoint after intruders entered their home just before midnight on Saturday.

Police Sergeant Wesley Twigg says the victims were asleep when they were woken up by suspects armed with knives and a crowbar who entered the premises through a bathroom window.

“The victims, an adult male and female, were tied up and the suspects took a firearm, jewellery, cellular telephones and an iPod before fleeing the scene,” added Twigg

According to reports, the victims aged 60 and 56, were at home when three unknown suspects entered the premises armed with weapons, tied up the victims and took jewellery, cellular telephones and laptops before fleeing the scene.

At the same time, Klapmuts police registered an attempted house robbery case for investigation following an incident on Sunday, 06 September 2026, on a farm on the R304 Road, Klapmuts.

According to reports, an unknown suspect entered the premises, but the victim saw him and alerted her husband. The suspect fired shots in the direction of the victim. The victim was not harmed, and the suspect fled to the scene in an unknown direction.

Chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police, Ian Cameron, says police have not linked the cases. Cameron, however, added that the repetition demands serious intelligence-led investigation, visible rural patrols and reliable rapid response.

“People living and working in rural areas cannot be left to face armed attackers alone. Rural safety requires proper policing and real coordination with farming communities and local safety structures.”
