A 54-year-old foreign national has been arrested after allegedly being found with drugs and attempting to bribe police officers.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) says officers were alerted to a property in Parksig, Bellville, on Tuesday, 18 August, where they followed up on information about drugs.
SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg says officers searched the house and discovered several illegal substances.
“ The members searched the premises and found 148,3 grams of crystal meth, 31 small packets containing crystal meth, 140 mandrax tablets, a plastic packet containing mandrax powder and uncut crystal meth.”
Twigg says the suspect was arrested, but allegedly tried to buy his way out of trouble by offering officers cash.
“While the members executed the arrest, the suspect offered them R5000 in cash for his release. The suspect also faces a charge in terms of the Immigration Act.”
The Nigerian national is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court soon.
