A six-year-old boy has died after being struck by a Golden Arrow bus in Elsies River, with police investigating a culpable homicide case following the incident.
The accident occurred on 35th Avenue on 16 October 2026.
In a statement, GABS described the incident as a tragedy, saying the collision could not have been avoided.
“The bus was operating as scheduled when a young child suddenly ran directly into its path,” the company said.
The minor was taken to Tygerberg Hospital, where he later died.
Company officials were present at the scene and at the hospital, where they offered support to the boy’s parents.
“This is a devastating tragedy, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family as they come to terms with the loss of their child,” the company said.
Golden Arrow also said the incident left its driver deeply traumatised.
“Our driver was deeply traumatised by the incident and, after being threatened by community members, proceeded to the nearest police station for her safety and in terms of company policy,” the statement read.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.
