Western Cape police have launched a murder probe after one of their own was shot and killed in Nyanga on Saturday night, 15 August.
The officer, who was attached to Gugulethu SAPS, was gunned down in Hani Street in Nyanga just after 22h00. Nyanga police were on patrol in the area when they heard gunshots.
When they arrived, they saw the officer, who was off-duty at the time, lying in the road with gunshot wounds to his upper body. A crowd had gathered around him.
Hawks detectives are investigating the circumstances around the shooting, the motive to which is still unknown.
No arrests have been made. SAPS management has conveyed its condolences to the family and colleagues of the officer.
