Recent Accidents Shine a Spotlight on Road Safety in Mitchells Plain

Published on

Lentegeur police registered a case of reckless and negligent driving after a collision this morning at the corner of Morgenster Road and Eisleben Road.

A South African Police Services (SAPS) vehicle transporting prisoners from Pollsmoor Prison to Philippi Magistrates’ Court collided with a black Toyota.

Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk says one woman and five men from the SAPS vehicle were slightly injured and taken under police guard to a nearby medical facility.

“All prisoners are accounted for, and the remaining detainees were still taken to court.”

Meanwhile, the two occupants of the Toyota, along with two SAPS officers, were also transported to hospital for treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

Just last month, a deadly crash on Eisleben Road in Mitchells Plain shocked the community. According to police, a driver in a BMW allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road and struck a pedestrian. The impact triggered a multi‑vehicle pile‑up involving four other vehicles.

The proximity in time and location of these two serious crashes has sparked concern, warning that reckless driving, poor road conditions and inadequate safety measures are turning parts of Mitchells Plain into dangerous zones for motorists and pedestrians alike.
