Adult Male Dies at Table Bay Harbour, Child Rescued Safely

A tragic incident unfolded at Table Bay Harbour this morning when an adult male was found dead in the water, while a five-year-old child, believed to be his son, was rescued unharmed.

 

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Table Bay duty crew, the City of Cape Town’s water rescue network, and police were called to D-Berth, Duncan Dock, after reports of a drowning in progress.

 

NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the child, was found safe in the care of bystanders.

 

“He was immediately handed over to paramedics and transported to hospital by Netcare 911 ambulance in a stable condition.”

 

During search efforts, an NSRI rescue swimmer located the adult male in the water. Police divers, assisted by NSRI rescue swimmers, recovered the body and brought it ashore. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and taken into the care of the police and Forensic Pathology Services.

 

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
