A major drug bust unfolded on the N12 outside George after police stopped a truck allegedly transporting a large consignment of cocaine from Johannesburg destined for the Southern Cape.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says members of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Narcotics Unit had received information about a truck carrying drugs.

“Acting on the information, officers tracked down the vehicle and pulled it over for a search. Inside the truck’s cabin, officers discovered a box containing six kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of R3.6 million.”

The driver, a 46 year old man was arrested on charges of dealing in cocaine. He is expected to appear in the George Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8 December 2025.

Police are now working to trace the full supply chain, including where the shipment originated and who it was meant for.
