Parts of the Western Cape are in for a scorcher of a weekend, as the South African Weather Service has issued an advisory for heatwave conditions over the West Coast, the City of Cape Town, and parts of the Cape Winelands.

Persistently high temperatures, ranging from the mid to high thirties, are expected from Friday, 7 November, until Sunday, 9 November.

Extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are also expected over Matzikama and in the Bergrivier tomorrow.

Places like Vredendal will peak at 40 degrees. Paarl and Stellenbosch are in for a 38-degree high.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated and keep out of the sun during the peak hours of the day.

While this weekend might be the perfect time to cool off in one of the community swimming pools in Cape Town, residents will have to wait a little bit longer before the pools open for the summer season.

Community swimming pools will be opened in phases, which the Metro says is necessary to balance the need for public access with the ongoing maintenance of critical infrastructure.

Most pools will operate on weekends only from 17 October to 30 November 2025 from 10:00 to 18:00, with the last ticket sold at 17:30. Indoor pools are open daily; however, Long Street Pool hours may vary.

Pools will operate daily from 1 December to mid-April 2026.

Residents need to note that re-opening dates may be changed at short notice due to operational requirements.

Patrons are encouraged to contact facilities directly for more information about specific pools and their operating hours.
