Arrest made for February mass shooting in Khayelitsha

Published on

Western Cape police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to a mass shooting in Khayelitsha earlier this year that left three people dead and three others wounded.

The incident took place on 8 February in Solomon Tshuku Street, C Block, where gunmen opened fire, killing three people and seriously injuring three more.

Provincial Serious and Violent Crime detectives launched an intensive investigation, gathering information and statements that ultimately led to the identification of a suspect.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that attempts to apprehend the suspect earlier in the year had been unsuccessful, as he managed to evade arrest.

“His luck ran out on Monday, 22 September, when officers arrested him while he was appearing in court for another matter.” added Twigg

The adult male is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 25 September, where he will face charges of murder and attempted murder.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing those responsible for violent crimes in the province, noting that their investigations into the shooting remain ongoing.
