According to a media statement, van Rensburg was already in his 80s when he reached the summits of Kilimanjaro and Mount Everest Base Camp. Included in this list is the famous Bloupunt, which forms part of the Langeberg mountain range near Montagu.

Exhibition: Montagu’s oldest professional artist

Van Rensburg is also known as Montagu’s oldest professional artist. According to those who know him, he has never smoked and doesn’t like the taste of alcohol. He added, “I only drink it when I have to.” At the moment, he follows a strict keto diet, “but a little sugar does no harm, especially if you burn it off,” he laughingly added.

There's life in the old dog yetVan Rensburg still loves to take regular walks. His favourite walk is the Kranskop route, which is a stone’s throw from his apartment in Montagu. His silhouette also graces the lower, rocky ridges of the Langeberg at times.

The exhibition can be visited during the months of October and November. You can access his work in the art gallery at the Montagu Country Hotel.

Van Rensburg’s secret for a long, healthy life is a good sense of humour, a curious and inquisitive nature, and finding joy in the small moments – especially in nature.
