Hanover Park CPF spokesperson Kashiefa Mohamed has made a heartfelt plea for urgent action as gang violence continues to grip the community.

It comes after three children were wounded in a gang-related shooting. The incident took place in Agulhas Court on Tuesday night, where six suspects opened fire.

An adult was also injured in the shooting. The children, aged 10, 14, and 16, were outside enjoying the warmer weather when the gunmen started shooting.

Mohamed described the pain of watching children finally return outdoors after the long, cold winter, only to be caught in crossfire.

“All I could hear was laughter and happiness in their voices… and then, within minutes, we heard gunshots. A few of our children were injured. That is the sad part of staying in Hanover Park, where you have to duck and dive 24/7,” she said.

She warned that no resident is safe, not even the elderly. “Our elderly people can’t even stand in the pension line. They get robbed. They have to duck and dive because of these bullets,” Mohamed explained.

Calling for urgent government intervention, Mohamed said she has already requested that a curfew be imposed in Hanover Park, similar to other communities facing violence.

“Why must our children die here in Hanover Park? These gangsters feel no remorse if they shoot our children or our women,” she said.

She urged residents and all stakeholders to come together, insisting that unity is the only way forward.

“Hanover Park belongs to its people, not to the gangsters. Our children deserve playgrounds, not graveyards. Hanover Park deserves peace, not war.”

Mohamed ended her call with a plea: “Let us fight, with unity, for the love of our community. Please, people, enough is enough.”
