There was some commotion near the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday afternoon after a naked man, believed to be a vagrant, fired off several gunshots.

Western Cape police say members attached to Cape Town Central SAPS responded to a complaint of a naked man on the sidewalk on Keerom Street at about 13:00.

On arrival at the scene, they found the man who refused to cooperate and cover himself.

Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie says a scuffle ensued during which the man took the firearm from one member and discharged shots.

Video footage shows him shooting some of the rounds into the pavement.

Fortunately, no one was hit.

Three officers then overpowered the suspect and arrested him on charges related to the robbery of a firearm, discharge of a firearm in a public space and public indecency.

He will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court once charged.
