SA Rugby and Vodacom Announce Historic Sponsorship Deal

Published on

SA Rugby and Vodacom have announced a historic sponsorship deal. SA Rugby and Vodacom have sealed a historic new sponsorship agreement, expanding a partnership that began in 1995. Vodacom now becomes the first and exclusive official telecommunications partner to all national teams and major competitions. This marks one of the most comprehensive deals in South African rugby history.

SA Rugby and Vodacom Announce Historic Sponsorship Deal

The partnership extends beyond Vodacom’s existing sponsorship of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, reaching every level of the game – junior to senior, men and women, grassroots to the global stage. This 365-day-a-year commitment puts Vodacom at the heart of rugby and closer to fans than ever before.

Supporting Every National Team and Competition

Under the new agreement, Vodacom will sponsor:

  • Springbok men’s and women’s teams (15s and Sevens)

  • Junior Springboks (men and women)

  • SA Rugby’s junior development teams

  • Carling Currie Cup

  • SA Cup

  • A new Women’s Super League (currently in planning)

This long-term investment strengthens Vodacom’s role in South African rugby’s evolution – from the Vodacom Super Rugby era to the Vodacom URC, where local teams have reached every Grand Final since the competition’s launch.

A Groundbreaking Moment in South African Rugby

“We are incredibly proud to deepen our long-standing partnership with Vodacom,” said Rian Oberholzer, CEO of SA Rugby.

“The expanded commitment is a powerful endorsement of our vision and enables us to grow the game at every level.”

Leaders Celebrate the Partnership

Sitho Mdlalose, CEO of Vodacom South Africa, added: “This deal gives rugby unprecedented exposure and reach, especially for the women’s game.

He added, “Rugby unites South Africans, and now fans can get even closer to the action – from watching the Springboks to discovering rising stars.”

A Win for Rugby Fans Nationwide

This historic sponsorship brings new opportunities for fan engagement, inclusivity, and the growth of women’s rugby, ensuring that South African rugby continues to inspire and unite communities across the country.
