Hundreds more e-hailing operating licences on offer

Published on

More than 1,000 e-hailing operating licences are available in the Western Cape.

The City Urban Mobility department says following a review, in partnership with the Provincial Government, they have identified a need for 1,106 additional operating licences to meet commuter demand.

Of these, 840 are new licences, which MMC Rob Quintas says will create opportunities for first-time applicants.

Operators with expired licences must apply between 18 and 30 June 2025, while new applications open on 1 July 2025.

Applicants are urged to prepare all required documentation, such as proof of residence or parking, and to adhere to the two-application limit per individual or company.

“This approach ensures transparency, combats licence resale, and promotes sustainable public transport systems.”

Quintas says this is about taking proactive steps to ensure a well-regulated, efficient metered taxi and e-hailing sector.

Applications can be lodged HERE.
