Police investigating Hotel Sky tragedy

Published on

A police investigation has been launched following a shocking incident in the Cape Town CBD on Monday afternoon, where it appears a man jumped to his death from the rooftop of Hotel Sky on Lower Long Street.

Police spokesperson Captain F.C. Van Wyk says crime scene experts and detectives are combing the scene for clues that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident. This includes reviewing security footage.

Van Wyk says a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the individual’s race, age, and the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information has been asked to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

According to several media outlets, the man had bought a ticket to the Sky-HI ride before plunging to his death. The Sky-Hi Ride takes you up in a chair lift, giving you a bird’s eye view of Cape Town before a quick descent, much like a ride at an amusement park.
