Trust is eroded when cops are allegedly bad apples, says Cape Flats Safety Forum

The Cape Flats Safety Forum says trust gets eroded when the very same people communities entrust with their safety become suspected criminals.

This is in connection with two City of Cape Town law enforcement officers who are expected to appear in the dock on Thursday, on charges relating to kidnapping and extortion.

The incident dates back to 14 May 2025, when the two men in blue apparently launched their attack on two victims in Khayelitsha and demanded a ransom. The duo was arrested and detained yesterday. The Cape Flats Safety Forum’s Abie Isaacs has vented his concerns.

“For us it is a concern because once again it proves to us that there are members within the law fraternity that one cannot, and again it puts a damper on the trust of the communities, (when they place their trust) in law enforcement,” said Isaacs.

The investigation remains underway.
